چکیده

In this paper we describe a heterogeneous knowledge base management system which is being designed and developed at North Dakota State University with support from IBM Rochester, MN. The system is called KB-HYDRO. It will connect a variety of autonomous local database systems as well as one or more knowledge base systems into one unified system. We show how global serializability and atomic commitment can be attained in KB-HYDRO. Each local system is assumed to be an off-the-shelf, binary-licensed system. KBHYDRO achieves global serializability using a set of objects based on the ROLL (Request Order Linked List) object developed in ([PER89], [PER91a]). ROLL is based on the general Serialization Graph Test (SGT) methodology [BER87], and provides freedom from idle-wait, deadlock, livelock and restart. KB-HYDRO uses attribute level granularity in its access control mechanism. This approach reduces conflicts substantially. Atomic commitment is provided, based on Two-

Applying Java for the Retrieval of Multimedia Knowledge Distributed on High Performance Clusters on the Internet

This paper describes a Java application for interfacing with an Internet based distributed multimedia knowledge retrieval system. The aim of this system is to facilitate the access of distributed knowledge residing on remote computer systems. The motivation for this work is the increasing demand for applications that take advantage of the Internet and local intranets for accessing and integrati...

Knowledge Component of a Multiagent Distributed Decision Support System

We have developed a distributed DSS capable to working in a dynamic way. That is, when a domain of an organization needs a new kind of information, the system looks for this information. This system is based on the usage of mobile agents, which receive the user's queries and visit the appropriate DSS domains to gather the required information. The system itself must analyze where this informati...

Representation of metaknowledge for the development of Organizational Semantic Webs

Our research project aims at elaborating hybrid Organizational Semantic Webs (OSWs) based on a strong coupling between a Knowledge Base (KB) and a Documents’ Base (DB), which means that capitalized knowledge is distributed among the KB and the DB. The advantage of modeling pieces of knowledge is that it allows the OSW to reason on this knowledge in order to assist users in the realization of ta...

A context-aware multi-agent framework for distributed reasoning on Android devices by B.V.S

This thesis presents the design and implementation of a software framework for distributed reasoning on Android devices. The JPR Agent Library can be used to create agents directly from a Prolog implementation deployable on Android. Each agent contains a knowledge base(KB) and an inference engine. Knowledge sharing is facilitated through a simple message passing scheme. A sample Android applica...

Human-Machine Cooperation with Epistemological DBs: Supporting User Corrections to Knowledge Bases

Knowledge bases (KB) provide support for real-world decision making by exposing data in a structured format. However, constructing knowledge bases requires gathering data from many heterogeneous sources. Manual efforts for this task are accurate, but lack scalability, and automated approaches provide good coverage, but are not reliable enough for realworld decision makers to trust. These two ap...
